A hair specialist for over 26 years, Stefan wasted no time and began immersing himself in the salon industry straight out of high school in Berlin. As an apprentice to Udo Walz, Germany’s best known celebrity hairdresser, no less, you would think that Stefan would follow in his mentor’s notoriously acclaimed up-do’s for supermodels Claudia Schiffer and Naomi Campbell, but not quite. Stefan admits that although he learned the refined art from the master (also famously known as Marlene Dietrich’s hairdresser at the young age of 18), he neither does hairstyling nor make-up.
But what he does, is equally impressive and uniquely his own. While an apprentice, he finished his degree in Cosmetology at Marcel Grateau, an institution named after the hairdressing icon of the late 19th century, after which he pursued his German Master’s Degree in Cosmetology. From 1987 to 1991, he devoted himself to honing his craft at the Udo Walz Salon, likewise investing his time there as a form of gratitude.
By 1991, Stefan was styling Hong Kong’s celebrities and high society, first at the Rêver Salon in Tsim Sha Tsui, and then at his own salon called SoHo German Hairstyling along Queens Road in East Wan Chai. While there, he mastered the art of working with Asian hair, amongst the cornucopia of an international clientele.
By 1998, he moved to Manila and worked at BCBG Salon at 6750 along Ayala Avenue. It was just a matter of time until he joined Basement Salon – a year to be exact, and Stefan has since become a pillar, and to his staff, “the heart” of the salon.
Specializing in hair color and other low maintenance technical services and haircuts for people-on-the-go, his regular clients enjoy the freedom and ease of styling and maintaining their hair, until their next visit in two to three months. A self-confessed “hair doctor”, he is viewed as a wizard who can solve just about any hair problem, from damaged to burnt hair.
But this is not the only reason Stefan is well loved. Stefan also specializes in precision cutting, and if you’ve had the privilege of sitting at his station, you most certainly have gotten up from your seat feeling like a queen at her throne.
And it goes without saying that Stefan is and will always be, at your service.
